The quickest method: measure a hoodie you already own
Grab the hoodie or sweatshirt that fits you best, lay it flat on a table, and smooth out the wrinkles.
- Width: measure straight across the chest from armpit seam to armpit seam.
- Length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the bottom hem.
- Compare both numbers to the size chart and choose the size that is closest. If you land between two sizes, see the tips below.
No hoodie to compare? Measure your body
- Chest: wrap a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, keeping the tape level and snug but not tight.
- Length: measure from the top of your shoulder down to where you want the hem to sit, usually just below the hip.
- Sleeve: with your arm slightly bent, measure from the center of the back of your neck, over the shoulder, down to your wrist.
Measure over a T-shirt, not a thick sweater, and write the numbers down in inches.

Measurements can vary by about an inch from one hoodie to the next, and different hoodie styles are cut a little differently. Always check the size details on the product page of the hoodie you are ordering.
What does unisex sizing mean?
Unisex hoodies follow standard men’s sizing with a straight, relaxed cut through the body. Men can usually order their normal size. Women who want a closer fit often go one size down from their usual women’s size, and stay with their usual size for a roomier, relaxed look.
Should you size up or down?
- For a regular fit, pick the size whose chest range matches your chest measurement.
- For an oversized, cozy fit, go up one size. Go up two if you want a true slouchy streetwear look.
- If you layer, size up one when you plan to wear the hoodie over thick shirts or flannels.
- If you are between sizes, choose the larger one. A slightly loose hoodie is comfortable; a tight one is not.
- If you are tall or have a long torso, look at the length column first and size up for extra coverage.
Buying a hoodie as a gift
If you cannot ask for measurements, quietly check the tag on a hoodie or sweatshirt the person already wears. When you have no information at all, size up: most people are happier with a hoodie that is a little roomy than one that is too snug.
Keep the fit after washing
Cotton-blend hoodies can shrink slightly in high heat. To keep the size and protect the print, turn the hoodie inside out, wash in cold water, and tumble dry on low or hang it to dry. Skip the iron on the printed area.
